Located next to Sewall Hall, the Puddin Clarke Centennial Garden was planted in the summer of 2012 in honor of Jean (‘Puddin’) Clarke and Robert L. Clarke ’63. The garden celebrates Rice’s 100th birthday and features an arc of Old Blush China roses. The Old Blush China roses were first cultivated in China and are believed to be one of the first, East Asian roses to have been imported into Europe and later the US. The inflorescence is noted for semi-double flowers that typically bloom from May to November and have a tea-like fragrance.
